]]>We visited Café In den Ouden Vogelstruys on our first day in Maastricht. This café is one of the oldest cafés in the Netherlands and iconic for Maastricht.
The café is situated at the famous Vrijthof and they have a beautiful terrace overlooking this square.
Since it was quite hot that day, we decided to take a seat in the shadow. We first ordered a Coca Cola and a homemade ice tea (which tasted delicious). Thereafter we ordered a baguette with salmon and a baquette with Dutch “kroketten”.
The baguette with salmon had quite a lot of salmon on it which tasted very appetizing. Moreover, the capers and nuts tasted amazing in combination with the salmon.
The baquette with the Dutch kroketten was also very tasy. The croquettes were of good quality and the salad on the side also tasted really nice.
We definitely had enjoyable afternoon at this restaurant and the waiters were all very relaxed and kind. Since it was quite busy on the terrace, we had to wait sometimes for somebody to take our order. However, this was not a problem to us. If you’re in the area of the Vrijthof, then this is absolutely a great place to go for lunch.

]]>After a day of shopping we decided to take a break at the Bagels & Beans in Leiden. This restaurant mainly focusses on bagels (of course) and coffee. It was our first time at Bagels & Beans and we both had never eaten a bagel before. Therefore we were very interested in how a bagel would actually taste.
We first ordered two Lattes which were delicious. Thereafter we ordered a sourdough bagel with wild salmon and a warm whole grain bagel with goatcheese.
The bagel with salmon was very tasty due to the combination of creamcheese with chives, capers, onion and lettuce.
The bagel with goatcheese tasted also really good but we only thought that there could be a little bit more honey on it. Nevertheless, the whole grain bagel tasted amazing and the walnuts and thyme on the goatcheese gave it an unique flavour.
We had a great experience at this restaurant and we were happily surprised by the taste of the bagels. Therefore we would definitely visit Bagels & Beans again to grab some lunch.
– What is your favourite kind of bagel at Bagels & Beans?

]]>The post Annie’s Leiden Summer Lunch appeared first on Nick's Honest.
]]>Restaurant Annie’s Leiden is one of our favourite restaurants in Leiden and since we can not get enough of this restaurant, we decided to write a second review about it. We had a beautiful spot on the terrace were we could see all the boats passing by on the canals which was absolutely wonderful.
Our afternoon with a cold beer and a glass of white wine and after a quick look at the menu, we already knew what we wanted. We decided to go for the smoked salmon sandwich and the brioche with serrano ham. The whole grain bread of the smoked salmon sandwich tasted superb and the salmon and creamcheese tasted mouthwatering as well. The brioche with serrano ham tasted also delightful. We never had eaten a brioche before but we were actually happily surprised by its taste. It was also quite a richly filled sandwhich and therefore it was sometimes quite difficult to eat in a neat manner.
Eventhough the terrace was packed, our food and drinks were served on time and with a smile. We again had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant and therefore we recommend it to anyone who is living in, or visiting Leiden.
– Have you ever visited Annie’s before?

]]>Our trip to Bruges in February was such a huge success that we decided to stay for another night.
On our extra day we visited Le Pain Quotidien for lunch. The bakery and restaurant are located in an old weaving mill at the: “Place Simon Stevin” in the city centre of Bruges. We waited at the entrance until a member of staff guided us to a table in the hall. We sat down on some comfy leather chairs with a small round table. I tried ordering a Cola but little did we know that they don’t serve any soft drinks. Therefore, both of us ordered a homemade lemonade and California Tartine. The lemonade was delicious and the salmon on the California Tartine was lovely in combination with the avocado and cucumber.
We had an amazing and relaxed time here. It’s definitely a good spot if you are in Bruges and if you would like to enjoy some great (healthy) food.

]]>The post Sint Joris – Brugge appeared first on Nick's Honest.
]]> On our first evening in Brugge we went for dinner on the “Markt” (large/main square). After looking at different menu’s at the restaurants, we decided to go to Sint Joris.
The kind gentleman at the door seated us at a table near the window. We overlooked the whole square at this fantastic table.
Since we were in Brugge, we couldn’t settle for anything less than a Brugse Zot which is a special beer from Brugge. As starters we ordered the cheese croquettes and a fish soup. The cheese croquettes were absolutely that best that we had in Brugge. They were way larger than we had imagined and it tasted incredible. The fish soup was very good as well. Even though I usually do not like soup that much.
For our main course we ordered the steak and salmon. Both came as quite a large portion, but they were very tasty and delicious. After we cleared our courses the we were about to explode. So much food… You would think we did not order a dessert after this big main course, but for all of you who know us, we of course did. We had a dame blanche and a waffle with sugar and whipped cream. It was so much that we rolled to our hotel, which was luckily for us, just around the corner.
Would we recommend Sint Joris? Well of course! If you compare this restaurant to the other restaurants on the square, this place looks more appealing and the price of the dishes are fair for what you get.
Have you visited Brugge and what was your highlight of your visit?
