  • Steak tartaar pompoen - Restaurant Basaal

During the The Hague Cocktailweek 2020, we visited restaurant Basaal for the Summer Dreamin’ Cocktail Supper, a 6-course dinner with matching cocktails.
Restaurant Basaal is located at the Dunne Bierkade in the citycentre of The Hague and they offer a wide variety of international dishes.

We attended the Summer Dreamin’ Cocktail Supper and the first dish was steak tartare from pumpkin with caviar and beetroot.
To match the flavours of our first course, we received a Moscow Mule with Van Kleef orangebitter, vodka and gingerbeer.
Our second course was a pike-perch fish cake with anchovies, olives and tomato. We received this course together with a Belsazar Fizz cocktail which contained Vermouth/D’Alsace.
The main course was wild duck with celery, stew and chives which tasted absolutely delicious! The Gin & Tonic from Nádar gin en verveine perfectly matched this dish by enhancing the flavour of the duck.
The fourth course was a small course which contained a crayfish croquet and sangria with medium sherry.
Finally, we received a pistache cake with crimson pear and white chocolate ice as a dessert. We also got a Strawberry Margarita with Patrón tequila and an Espresso Martini.

We had an wonderful evening and we enjoyed all the food and drinks that we received. The service was great and the food was beautifully prepared and very delicious. If this event will be offered next year during the cocktailweek at restaurant Basaal, we would certainly like to revisit this restaurant again!

  • Restaurant - Fratelli Den Haag

During our citytrip in The Hague (or Den Haag in Dutch), we visited Italian restaurant Fratelli on our last evening. Restaurant Fratelli offers a rich variety of regional dishes from all over Italy. Therefore, the restaurant not only serves pizzas and pasta but also meat and fish dishes.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were directly greeted by a waitress who took us to our seat in a cozy corner of the restaurant. We direclty ordered a glass of white wine and we decided to go for the Carpaccio Di Manzo as a starter.
The carpaccio tasted absolutely wonderful and it was one of the better carpaccios we have eaten. The slices were very thin and with the Parmesan cheese it tasted amazing.
Furthermore, we ordered the Tagliolini Al Tartufo Nero which was a dish made of fresh Tagliolini pasta with truffel. This dish was very special since it was prepared at our table in a big Parmesan cheese.
The pasta was incredibly tasty and it had a wonderful flavour. Moreover, you get a decent portion of pasta for the price you pay for it as well.

The waiters in the restaurant were very kind and did their job well but the service was not anything really special. We had a great last evening in The Hague in this restaurant and therefore this restaurant is certainly recommended. Especially the Tagliolini Al Tartufo Nero is an absolute must try!

  • Room 109 - Boutique Hotel Corona - The Hague

A week ago, we visited Boutique hotel Corona for a short city trip to the Hague (Den Haag). The hotel is the oldest 4-star hotel in the Hague and it is situated in the city centre close to most of the important sights. ❤

When we arrived at the hotel, we were directly greeted by the receptionists. All of staff, especially Martine and Stan, were very professional, friendly and polite.
This gave us a very good first impression of the hotel. After a smooth check-in, we were guided to our room on the first floor.

The Room

We got a beautiful, renovated superior room with everything we needed for an amazing stay. Also, our bags were already brought to our room since we couldn’t check-in directly. We absolutely loved this extra piece of service.
Our room had a personal welcome card from the team, chocolates and a special Corona Hotel ducky we called Cory (Corona and Ducky). All these amenities made us directly feel at home.
The room was spacious and very well cleaned. We slept absolutely wonderful in the bed and the rain shower was lovely as well. Due to COVID-19, there was no breakfast buffet but everything that we needed was served directly to our table. The ‘Buffet-at-your-table’ was very nice. We had an amazing stay at this hotel and from check-in to check-out we received excellent service.
Therefore, we certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to or is planning to visit the Hague. You will definitely receive an outstanding experience at this hotel!

We would like to give special thanks to Lisa for making everything possible!

  • Paapje in Glass - Brouwerij Cavé

A powerful tripel with a fresh taste and a citrusy character. These are the characteristics from the beer: ‘Paapje Tripel’ from brewery Cavé.

Brewery Cavé is a local brewery from Voorschoten and they brew beautiful craft beers. The Paapje Tripel is named after ‘de Papenlaan’ and ‘de Papewegse Polder’ which are located in Voorschoten. This beer is easy to drink due to its smooth taste and it has a slightly bitter aftertaste. You definitely taste the flavour of hop in this beer and because it has has citrusy character, it also tasted quite spicy.

We absolutely loved it! Therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.

  • Great picture of Oedipus Mannenliefde in the garden

After our last post about ‘Trigo’ from brewery Founders Brewing Co. from the beerbox, we decided to review our next beer from this box. The beer is from the Dutch brewery Oedipus. The name of this beer is Mannenliefde and this is the very first brew of this brewery.
Mannenliefde is a brew to free beer from predominant ideas about beer as a masculine drink, it’s about openness and vulnerability and diversity.
The beer is a 6% ABV Saison and the brewery has added lemongrass to add freshness, Szechuan pepper to give it a bit of bite and Sorachi ace hops to give it some herbal and coconut aromas.
We liked this beer but it was not something very special. We rate this beer a 3.5/5

Cheers!

Interview with Boutique Hotel Coronaduring the COVID
In the theme of: “help each other” we want to highlight entrepreneurs and companies during the pandemic. With our review platform, we hope to give extra attention to the companies we normally depend on. For this review, we interviewed Boutique Hotel Corona about how they are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and how you can support them.

About the hotel
Boutique Hotel Corona is the oldest 4-star hotel in The Hague. The hotel is located close to the Mauritshuis, Binnenhof and ‘het Plein’. They are proud to be awarded ‘Best Hotel in The Hague’ by hotels.nl. Everyday their team is working with passion and dedication to deliver the best service for you!
Normally, the hotel receives a lot of guests during this time of the year but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their number of guests have decreased dramatically. Luckily, the hotel is still open for guests. Even though the hotel might be quieter, there is no reason for them to sit still. They have sped up the renovations of the last 22 rooms to make the hotel feel brand new and to make the guests feel even more at home.

Promotions during COVID-19
The first promotion is ‘NEED SOME (WORK) SPACE?’. This promotion is especially for people who need to work from home during the pandemic. You can book a room for 4 or 8 hours and use all the amenities. In this way, the hotel makes it possible for guests to work in a quiet environment. The second promotion is the ‘INVEST IN REST’. This promotion is for people who are seeking for a place to relax. It is possible to book a Comfort room for a special rate. During your stay you will receive breakfast at your room, late check-out and a bottle of bubbles for ultimate comfort. The last promotion is for caretakers working outside of their hometown, relatives of caretakers and relatives of patients nursed elsewhere in the country due to the Corona crisis. The Hotel partnered up with the platform hotelshelpen.nl. This platform allows caretakers and relatives of patients to book a room for €25,- in different hotels all over the country and stay close to work or loved ones during the pandamic.

What can you do to support Boutique Hotel Corona?
Besides purchasing the promotions, it is also possible to buy gift cards starting from €25,- to €100,-. If you buy any of the promotions it will help them a lot! They would also be very happy to receive some positive messages on their social media accounts or per e-mail. Therefore please follow them on:

  • Roem's Streetfood culinair

A long time ago, we reached out to Roem’s streetfood culinair for a sponsered review. Last week the time had finally come, we visited Roem’s! ❤ The restaurant is located in the Teleport hotel in The Hague and it has free parking behind the hotel. We entered the restaurant and we were directly greeted by a very kind and professional waiter. We sat down, ordered a beer and a white wine and waited till the waiter came with the menu. Little did we know that they use a chalkboard with a daily selection of dishes depending on the season and markt offers. This means that the menu is never the same which makes it a true surprise what you are going to eat!
The dishes are designed to share and all the dishes have the size between a starter and a main course. You can choose as many dishes as you want for just €8,50 per dish! ❤ The waiter told us that most of the people order 2 dishes per person, so that’s what we did.

The 4 dishes we choose were smoked salmon on brown bread and sticky gamba followed by loaded fries (fries with cheese, ground beef with some sauses on top) and truffle rissoto.
The dishes were incredibly good especially the salmon, gambas and risotto. The loaded fries were nice, but couldn’t compete with the other ones. As a dessert, we ordered a cheese platter and pancakes with a tasty sweet maple syrup. These were both very delicious!

We had a wonderful evening here and we enjoyed the amazing hospitality! This restaurant is definitely recommended to everyone who loves to enjoy streetfood and the tapas kind of eating style! You will definitely get a amazing experience and service here!

  • BRICKS "Hooch & Brew" - Cocktailbar

Bricks… words can’t describe how amazing this place is. Bricks uses the Tailored Cocktails to sell you an experience of your lifetime. You tell them what flavours you like, and they make sure you get a drink like no one before. It’s all about the experience.

Everywhere you go you probably order the same drink; the same food and you are comfortable with that. At Bricks this isn’t the case, it’s not even possible. They try to broaden your horizon and make you experience a drink like you never had. Not only are the drinks fantastic, they are eco-friendly and aware of the impact we, as human beings, have on the environment. At bricks they use, and grow, their own herbs and use bamboo or metal straws in their cocktails.

This isn’t everything, the flower decoration around the bar is also used for decoration and garnish of your drink, just amazing! Eddy told us all about the philosophy of bricks and how he feels like the restaurants and bars can set the example of being eco-friendly and zero waste. Both of us felt inspired by him and his words. Now let’s talk about these art pieces they made for us. We ordered two cocktails one was based on a Mojito (with the rose, fruit and leaves) and the second one was Fresh, sweet and with a fruity flavour (with the feather). Not only did we have 2 art pieces we got a charcuterie plank with olives, almonds and ham.

After our first two cocktails we went for another two based on more tropical flavours. We got these beautiful looking cocktails, one in a moai head cup/pot and the other one in a tropical themed can with a rose and feather. All the cocktails tasted and looked amazing.
Never in our lives did we have such an amazing experience. We would recommend Bricks to everyone!
