  • Martha Brown Eyes - Bottle

Our Belgian beer box contained a wide variety of beers. One of them was from the Brew Society and is called the Martha Brown Eyes (12%). It is a strong dark beer in quadrupple style with secondary fermentation in the bottle. It is inspired by the best beers from the Belgian Trappist brewers.

The first taste impression was of marzipan and coffee flavour. It was quite hard to put a finger on it’s flavour but the brewers website helped out a lot. A pleasant fruity notes of apple, candied pear, ripe strawberry and cherries with a slightly spicy touch of anise, liqourice, caramel, coffee and chocolate. Drinking this beer and with these flavours in mind you can definitly say the description is accurate. The anise, liqourice and caramel are more present then the fruits but if you take a good sip you will notice the rest of the flavours.
We loved the beer and its unique strong flavour. If we ever come acrose this beer again we will most definitly bring it back home!

Let us know if you have ever tried the Martha Brown Eyes or any of their beers?

Is That Spelt Ryeght is already our last barrel aged beer from our beer box from brewery Jopen. This Porter has matured for more than 400 days in Scottish Glenburgie & Auchroisk whiskey barrels and it has an alcoholpercentage of 11%. Moreover, it is brewed with English hops which are 50% spelt- and 50% rye malt.

Is That Spelt Ryeght has aromas from raisins and wood and it definitely has a caramelly taste. Moreover, the colour of this beer is brown/black and it has a smooth whiskey flavour. Despite its high alcoholpercentage, it is a really easy beer to drink. We especially tasted caramel and whiskey in this beer and it tasted rather sweet than bitter.❤
It was a delicious beer to drink and therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.

Sin & Remorse is another beautiful beer that we received in the beerbox from brewery Jopen. This beer has been brewed in collaboration with brewery De Molen and it has matured for 500 days on Ledaig and Isle of Arran whisey barrels.

The Sin & Remorse is a really dark beer with aromas of coffee, whiskey, wood and a hint of peat. It also has an alcoholpercentage of 10,5% and we especially tasted and smelled the whiskey in this beer. We were absolutely happily surprised by the taste of this beer. It tasted sweet, but also quite bitter and it is like an explosion of all different kinds of flavours in your mouth when you drink it. Moreover, we are a big fan of whiskey and you definitely smelled and tasted this in the beer. It was bsolutely an outstanding beer!
Therefore, we rate this beer a 4,8/5.
