  • Brioche Serrano ham - Annie's Leiden

Restaurant Annie’s Leiden is one of our favourite restaurants in Leiden and since we can not get enough of this restaurant, we decided to write a second review about it. We had a beautiful spot on the terrace were we could see all the boats passing by on the canals which was absolutely wonderful. ❤

Our afternoon with a cold beer and a glass of white wine and after a quick look at the menu, we already knew what we wanted. We decided to go for the smoked salmon sandwich and the brioche with serrano ham. The whole grain bread of the smoked salmon sandwich tasted superb and the salmon and creamcheese tasted mouthwatering as well. The brioche with serrano ham tasted also delightful. We never had eaten a brioche before but we were actually happily surprised by its taste. It was also quite a richly filled sandwhich and therefore it was sometimes quite difficult to eat in a neat manner.

Eventhough the terrace was packed, our food and drinks were served on time and with a smile. We again had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant and therefore we recommend it to anyone who is living in, or visiting Leiden.

We have partnered up with Brouwerij Breugem since august 2019 and we have reviewed almost all of their beers. But who are the people behind Breugem? First of all, we have Patrick Breugem. He is the founder and owner of the brewery. Together with Ernst (shareholder) and Marcel (Beer connoisseur/accountmanager) they create all different sorts of amazing beers.

During the pandemic, sales declined eventhough retail and liquor stores stayed open. The deliveries to restaurants and cafés stopped, so Breugem and his team had to use their creativity to overcome the decline in sales.
Breugem now offers a special beer box with beers from breugem. Also, you can buy special boxes with food and drinks from local partners. In this way, you can enjoy your beer with matching snacks.
They also changed the appearance of their flagship beer ‘Zoentje’ by selling it in a can instead of a bottle.
Moreover, the most important change is the new online webshop at brouwerijbreugem.nl.

Futheremore, the brewery sees, as a positive effect of COVID-19, a lot more people drinking beers at home and sharing their opinions via platforms like Untappd. They rate the beers and give an explanation why they gave their rating. Because of this, the bond between the brewery and the customer has been strengthened since they now have the opportunity to interact more with their customers then before.

It is also possible to follow this brewery on their Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn page and you can sign up to their monthly newsletter via their website! We will keep reviewing their beers so make sure you follow Breugem so you can stay up to date with the latest beer developments and special offers!

We love their work and we think you will too!

  • Brouwerij Breugem Asian White bottle

We have drank almost every beer from Brouwerij Breugem except this one.
The Asian White is a wheatricebeer with freshly grated Galanga root (a plant close to ginger) and Djeroek Poeroet (lime leaves).
This beer is a typical summer beer, since it has a low alcoholpercentage and because it has a very fresh and citrusy flavour.
This beer won silver in the category of “White Beer with extra ingredients, Beer with Spices”, Kraft Roku 2017.

Information about the beer:
Malt: Wheat, Pils, Sour and Rice flakes
Hops: Cascade
Various: Laos root en Djeroek Poeroet
Bitterness: 16 EBU which means that the beer has slightly bitter flavour (EBU= European Bitternes Units).
Alcohol percentage: 4,6%

We were surprised by the fresh and balanced flavour of this beer. We truly loved it and we would definitely like to drink this beer again in the future. This beer is absolutely recommended as a wonderful beer to drink on any occasion!

  • Interiour of 'T Fust in Leiden

For Valentine’s Day we were in search of a place to dine. We were looking for a romantic restaurant that we hadn’t visited before and after a long search we found restaurant ‘T Fust.
‘T Fust is a restaurant which is located in a historical building and it has a casual atmosphere.
We were very happy with our choice to go to this restaurant because the food was absolutely fantastic!

We started our evening with some olive bread and with a glass of white wine on the side. We also reveived a nicely prepared appetizer to start with. We decided to go for a 3-course menu and we ordered the “Parmezaan” (Parmesan) and the “Tonijn” (tuna). The tuna was very tasty and flavorful and the parmesan tasted absolutely delicious!
Secondly we ordered “Kabeljauw” (codfish) and “Rib-Eye”. The first dish had enough vegetables on the side which tasted really well together with the codfish. The codfish was delicious as well! The rib-eye had a very rich flavour and the sweet potatoes on the side were also great!
As a dessert we ordered the “Marquise” and the “Cheesecake”. These were also absolutely mouthwatering!
The service in the restaurant was very good! We received our courses pretty quick and all the employees were very friendly to us.

We had an incredible evening at this restaurant and we even received a small bottle of cava when we payed the bill. Therefore, we would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone!

  • Carpaccio with bread

When we announced that we were going to post a review about Annie’s we were overwhelmed with responses. All of them were very positive. ❤

Annie’s is a unique restaurant located in the city centre of Leiden. If you have ever visited Leiden, you will know that the city has a lot of beautiful canals. Annie’s is located on one of them and it has a wonderfull terras and cozy inside seating areas. Everyone knows Annie’s and that’s for a reason. The quality of the food, service and the unique location make Annie’s a “must visit” in Leiden! You can’t say you have visited Leiden if you haven’t been to Annie’s.

We visited the restaurant in the afternoon to grab some lunch. We started off with a nice cappuccino and a cup of mint tea. As our main course we ordered a goat cheese sandwich and carpaccio. The goat cheese sandwich was incredibly good. ❤ This course contains 2 big slices of creamy goat cheese, honey, a brown bun and some veggies. After my girlfriend finished her course, she almost ordered another one . My carpaccio was also very good. It was quite a large portion with some brown bread and parmesan cheese. It was one of the best I’ve ever had! The service was also very good. The food was served on time and the staff were all very polite to us.

If you’re looking for an amazing spot in Leiden to eat, go to Annie’s! We can be very short about that

  • BRICKS "Hooch & Brew" - Cocktailbar

Bricks… words can’t describe how amazing this place is. Bricks uses the Tailored Cocktails to sell you an experience of your lifetime. You tell them what flavours you like, and they make sure you get a drink like no one before. It’s all about the experience.

Everywhere you go you probably order the same drink; the same food and you are comfortable with that. At Bricks this isn’t the case, it’s not even possible. They try to broaden your horizon and make you experience a drink like you never had. Not only are the drinks fantastic, they are eco-friendly and aware of the impact we, as human beings, have on the environment. At bricks they use, and grow, their own herbs and use bamboo or metal straws in their cocktails.

This isn’t everything, the flower decoration around the bar is also used for decoration and garnish of your drink, just amazing! Eddy told us all about the philosophy of bricks and how he feels like the restaurants and bars can set the example of being eco-friendly and zero waste. Both of us felt inspired by him and his words. Now let’s talk about these art pieces they made for us. We ordered two cocktails one was based on a Mojito (with the rose, fruit and leaves) and the second one was Fresh, sweet and with a fruity flavour (with the feather). Not only did we have 2 art pieces we got a charcuterie plank with olives, almonds and ham.

After our first two cocktails we went for another two based on more tropical flavours. We got these beautiful looking cocktails, one in a moai head cup/pot and the other one in a tropical themed can with a rose and feather. All the cocktails tasted and looked amazing.
Never in our lives did we have such an amazing experience. We would recommend Bricks to everyone!
