  • Martha Brown Eyes - Bottle

Our Belgian beer box contained a wide variety of beers. One of them was from the Brew Society and is called the Martha Brown Eyes (12%). It is a strong dark beer in quadrupple style with secondary fermentation in the bottle. It is inspired by the best beers from the Belgian Trappist brewers.

The first taste impression was of marzipan and coffee flavour. It was quite hard to put a finger on it’s flavour but the brewers website helped out a lot. A pleasant fruity notes of apple, candied pear, ripe strawberry and cherries with a slightly spicy touch of anise, liqourice, caramel, coffee and chocolate. Drinking this beer and with these flavours in mind you can definitly say the description is accurate. The anise, liqourice and caramel are more present then the fruits but if you take a good sip you will notice the rest of the flavours.
We loved the beer and its unique strong flavour. If we ever come acrose this beer again we will most definitly bring it back home!

Let us know if you have ever tried the Martha Brown Eyes or any of their beers?

  • Quadrupel - Brouwerij Voorschoten - Glass

Two weeks ago, we reviewed the Ben Nevis BA called ‘Winterslaapje’. This time we wrote a beer review about the other new beer from Brouwerij Voorschoten, the Quadrupel.

The Voorschotens Quadrupel is a strong beer that drinks away pretty easily. It is originally brewed for the colder days, but can actually be enjoyed year round. The Quadrupel is a aromatic beer with a ruby red to black colour. Furthermore, it has a warming body with a touch of dried fruit.
Since darker beers are right up our ally, this was bound to be a succes.
And it sure was! The smell and flavours of this beer are very strong which is most definitly something we like. Therefore, this beer is certainly one we would drink again.
Therefore, we rate this beer a 4/5.

Black Sabbath from Brouwerij Bliksem

Black Sabbath from Brouwerij Bliksem is a rich Quadrupel beer.
It is a complex, dark beer diluted with maple syrup. The beer contains red fruit and some spiciness in the aroma and flavour.
The beer is inspired by the song: “Black Sabbath” from the band Black Sabbath. Because de singer Ozzy sings: “Big black shape with eyes of fire” in his song, the brewery decided to make the beer intense and pitch black of colour.
We randomly chose this beer from our local supermarket when we were looking for a dark beer that we had never drunk before. Our eyes fell on the intense font on the label. It’s quite unique that we chose this beer based on a label which is so simple apart from its font.
The flavour on the other hand, was anything but simple. It’s an intense and complex flavour and if you’re not really into this kind of flavours you can better avoid this beer.
But we love these kind of flavour surprises.
Due to its high alcohol percentage of 10% you shouldn’t chug it away like you maybe want to do. (because it tastes sooo good)

Take your time when you are drinking this beer, it’s worth it. 8/10 for the flavour and a 7/10 for the design.
