Emelisse 15 year anniversary – Beer review

Emelisse is a brewery from Zeeland (The Netherlands) and they offer a wide range of specialty beers. It is a very special brewery since they offer unique flavour combinations and a characteristic taste experience. Therefore, we are super happy that we received a beer box from this brewery. 🍻

The first beer that we tried from Emelisse was the Emelisse 15th anniversary.
This Imperial Russian Stout has matured in Kilchoman whiskey barrels for 15 weeks. Furthermore, it has an alcoholpercentage of 15% and is brewed for 15 hours with 15 types of malts. 👍
This exclusive edition is characterized by notes of walnut, coffee and chocolate. We certainly tasted the whiskey in this beer and this also gave a burning sensation in our throats. We also smelled the notes of coffee, chocolate and whiskey very strongly. ☕🍫🥃
Finally, the aftertaste of whiskey stayed in our mouths for a long time. We were absolutely happily surprised by this beautiful taste sensation and we would certainly like to try this beer again. Therefore, we rate this beer a 4,2/5. 😍

Embrasse – Dochter van de Korenaar – Beer review

After drinking the special edition beer of brewery De Dochter van de Korenaar (which was the ‘L ensemble di Montalcino), we got very enthusiastic about this brewery. 😍
We therefore were very lucky to also receive a beautiful beer box from this brewery.

The first beer that we tried was the De Dochter van de Korenaar Embrasse. This is an intens heavy dark beer with an alcoholpercentage of 9%. The beer contains tones of coffee, chocolate and subtropical fruits. 🥰 We absolutely smelled the tones of coffee in this beer while drinking it and the tones of coffee and chocolate were very present in the flavour as well. 🍫☕ Furthermore, it had a fruity and slightly bitter aftertaste.

It was a complex beer with a delicious taste and therefore we rate this beer a 4,5/5. 👍

  • Jopen - Blackberry Sour BA - Glass

The Blackberry Sour is a beautiful limited edition beer from brewery Jopen. This beer has matured for 548 days in different Bourbon barrels and it has a wonderful purple glow.
Furthermore, blackberries were added at the end of the brewing process. We definitely smelled and tasted this while drinking this beer.

The beer is quite complex with a malty base and it has aromas of chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. The aftertaste is sweet and sour due to the addition of blackberries.
We absolutely enjoyed this beer very much since we really loved the sweet and sour flavour. It is not too sour and the taste of dark fruit is amazing. Although the beer is a Bourbon barrel aged, the bourbon was not very present in the flavour. It rather tasted like a strong red wine or port.
Therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.

Meesterstuk 2017 is, as the name implies, a masterpiece (meesterstuk). The beer is brewed at brewery Jopen in Haarlem. This beer has matured in Bowmore barrels for 365 days and therefore it has a strong special flavour of Scotch whisky.
Moreover, this beer is brewed with fresh ginger, Celtic sea salt and cocoa. Due to these unique ingredients, they created a beautiful balance between sweet and salty and soft and spicy.

Since we really love whiskey, this was absolutely an excellent beer to drink! It has quite a smokey whiskey flavour and its colour is pitch black. Furthermore, the beer has an alcoholpercentage of 12,5% and it has a very strong smell of whiskey.
Unfortunately the beer was not very foamy but this was not a big deal to us since it still tasted amazing.

We were happily surprised by the wonderful taste of the Meesterstuk 2017 and we would absolutely like to buy this one again. Therefore we rate this beer a 4,8/5

Brouwerij breugem heet en stout review

Today’s beer review is about another amazing beer from Breugem the Heet & Stout. This was the second beer we drank from our beer box. ❤

We weren’t quite sure what to expect from this beer except that it’s a stout and probably spicy. Well we weren’t wrong. The first sip we took overwhelmed us with the different flavours. As someone who loves unique beers, this one is definitely a must try.
We were so impressed by the flavour of the beer that we rated it a 9 out of 10! As we are used to the design is on point. Red colour to indicate it’s spicy ingredient with the small pepers above the “Zaanse sambal”. An 8 out of 10.

For our beer enthusiast:

Mout: Maris Otter Pale Ale, Brown, Black, Crystal
Hop: Willamette, Marynka
Gist: Lallemand London Divers: tinctuur obv wodka 50% met gerookte pepers, Habanero, Naga Jolokia en rode chili
Bitterheid: 42 EBU
Alcoholpercentage: 8%

Once again a beautifull and unique beer of the brewers of Brouwerij Breugem.

Cheers!

Breugem kracht hout beer

Breugem might be our new favourite brewery with their amazing selection of beers.

We were lucky to get a box (yes a box) full of their beers. So we thought it is time to start drinking and reviewing the beers, starting with the Kracht Hout. The description of the beer on their site is: “A powerful quadrupel with Palo Santo wood. Patrick Breugem and Derek Walsh have taken on the challenge of adding this unique wood to this beer. The result is a prize-winning beer! Gold in the “Innovation Special, Wood-bearing” category, Dutch Beer Challenge 2017″. ❤ We could definitly taste why it won prices. The flavour is quite complex due to the Palo Santo- wood. It contains the taste of caramel, vanilla and coconut and it has an alcohol percentage of 11%. It is truly delicious to drink!

The bitterness is: 28 EBU (European Bitternes Unit).
These ingredients combined with the beer crafting (art) skills of Breugem created this masterpiece. We loved it so much we give it a 9 for the flavour!

Not only the flavour is incredible, you can also see they have put a lot of effort in the design of the bottle. It’s clean, referencing to the location of the brewery (the Zaan) and it has a colour scheme which fits the name (‘hout’ dutch for ‘wood’). Therefore we would like to give the design of the bottle a 8.5.

We can’t wait to drink the rest of the beers and give you a Honest Review! ❤
