Bagels & Beans – Takeaway review

Recently, we decided to order two bagels at Bagels & Beans since we were really graving for some lunch. ☺❤
We hadn’t eaten at Bagels & Beans since last summer due to the pandemic. Therefore we were very happy that we were able to order through takeaway.

We ordered the sourdough bagel with wild salmon and the whole grain bagel with avocado. The bagel with salmon is one of our favourites and it tasted (again) very delicious! The whole grain bagel with avocado, tomato, lettuce and creamcheese with chives was also very tasty. 😍
We were also very glad that both of the bagels were already made with all the ingredients on it. The last time that we ate at Bagels & Beans, we had to put the capers, onions and creamcheese ourselves on the wild salmon bagel. This was a little bit difficult to do so and we were therefore very happy with how we received it through takeaway. 👍

We absolutely recommend anyone to order your bagels from Bagels & Beans via takeaway since they deliver fast and their bagels are delicious! 🥰

Hotel Schaepkens van St. Fijt – Worst experience review!

During our citytrip to Maastricht and Valkenburg last July, we stayed in Hotel Schaepkens van St. Fijt in Valkenburg. ❤
Upon arrival we were a little bit to early to check-in and therefore we received a drink voucher to get something at the bar.
When we checked at the reception if our room was ready, we were asked to check if the room was cleaned ourselves which we thought was weird. 🤔
But since we were very tired, we went to the room to check if it was clean and hereafter we went back to the reception to tell them that it was clean.

We were quite disappointed about the room since it was very outdated and hot and it there wasn’t any fan or airconditioning. 😅 We also had separate blankets, the room smelled odd and the shower worked very badly. 👎We booked the Superior room and we had expected a lot more than this. The only positive thing about the room was that it had a beautiful view and that the bed was good.

Furthermore, the breakfast the next day was a disaster. We visited it during the pandemic and it was like COVID-19 didn’t even exist here. Everybody was walking around and touching all the amenities on the buffet and it look very dirty as well. There were no walking routes or markings on the floor and
social distancing wasn’t a thing. We were absolutely shocked. 😰

Luckily we only stayed here for one (overpriced) night and we never experienced such a bad service and hotel before. Normally, we always try to see the positive in every situation but this left us no choice than to write a bad review. 😁

Brasserie de Poort – Leiden – Takeaway Review

Brasserie de Poort is a hidden gem located at the Zijlpoort, one of the last two remaining city gates of Leiden. Their menu is based on their motto: “It is all about you. We love to share.” That is why they created the Love to Share menu. This menu changes weekly and includes plenty of dishes to share. ❤
We tried the menu of the week of the 12th of November and we absolutely loved it! It was definitely the best food we had in a while!

We started of with Pork cheeks with homemade crab salad and soy sauce. Furthermore, we tried the Puffed pumpkin with cavolo nero, ricotta and roasted almonds. Both of the dishes were super tasty and delicious.
We aslo received the Melanzane alla Parmigiana. This was a fenominal vegetarian dish based on sliced eggplant, layerd with parmesan cheese and tomato sauce. 😍
Next, we had the Grilled gambas which was personally one of my favourites. Another great dish was the Salmon with marinated beetroot. This turned the salmon purple and gave it an unique, but pleasant flavour. Our last dish was the smoked dry-aged entrecôte with fried Brussels sprouts and truffle mayo. What an incredible combination! The impressive smoky flavour stayed in our mouths for a long time. 👍

As with every great menu, you have to try some incredible desserts, right?
We first tried the cheese platter filled with 5 different cheeses and all the cheeses were very delicious. 🧀
The second dessert contained 3 different cakes. We did our best to identify them, but don’t quote us on it. 😁 We had cheesecake with blackberries and strawberries, a butter cake and some sort of brownie/chocolate cake. Both of the desserts were incredible just like the rest of the menu.

We already told the staff that we will certainly come back for a regular diner because the food tasted fenominal. Their takeaway menu left us so satisfied and happy, that we highly recommend Brasserie de Poort to you! 🥰

Restaurant Basaal – Takeaway

When the second lockdown was announced, the restaurants had to close. The only way to get your favourite food nowadays is via takeaway. To anticipate on this, we reached out to our audience and Restaurant Basaal contact us shortly after. We went to the Hague fully equipped and shot some beautiful pictures. During our first takeaway session, we had some unique and special food from this international orientated restaurant. 🥰

We started with tureen made of bovine tongue and duck liver together with Amsterdam onions and lentils. This was something we never tried before and we noticed quickly that it is not for everyone. 😉
Next up was the Pulpo a la Gallega made via a Portuguese traditional recipe from the grandma of one of the employees. The Pulpo (ocotpus) is prepared with potato, paprika powder and parsley. A great dish with some good flavours! 🦑❤
Another dish we tried is the Bacalhau (codfish) salad with chickpeas and boiled egg. The strong flavour from the Bacalhau in combination with the chickpeas made this one of our top picks! The last dish we tried was the beetroot salad with aged farmer’s cheese, pistachio and cress. This one is another great dish we loved, mainly because it is something different from the menu that mostly contains meat. The farmer’s cheese is certainly present and this is a plus if you ask us. 😁

The desserts were absolutely amazing. We tried the pumpkin pie with custard and the ricepudding with mango and almond crumble. Especially the pumpkin pie was fenominal. It was so soft and full of flavour that we highly recommend this one. The ricepudding is another goodlooking dish we enjoyed eating but the pie was our favourite.
Finally, if you like unique, special and tasty food, you should definitly try the takeaway dishes of Basaal in the Hague. 👍

  • D'Amici - Vleuten

When we were on our way home from our citytrip to Den Bosch, we decided to make a stop in Vleuten at D’Amici.
D’Amici is an Italian restaurant and pizzeria and they cook according to Italian traditions and hospitality.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greated and seated by the owner of the restaurant. We got a nice spot with a good overview of the kitchen and we directly received some bread with dip on our table.
We decided to order the pizza Quattro Formaggi and the Diavolo.
The pizza Quattro Formaggi tasted very good but the small pieces of spicy salami on the Diavolo were a bit disappointing. Because the pieces where so small, it rather tasted like a pizza Margaritha.
Furthermore, the service was unfortunately very bad. Even tough it wasn’t very busy, we had to wait for a very long time to order something or to get our bill.
This was a bit frustrating to us since we tried to get anyones attention all the time but without succes.

Unfortunately, we wouldn’t recommend this restaurant since the pizzas weren’t that fantastic and because we were very disappointed by the service that we received.

  • Steak tartaar pompoen - Restaurant Basaal

During the The Hague Cocktailweek 2020, we visited restaurant Basaal for the Summer Dreamin’ Cocktail Supper, a 6-course dinner with matching cocktails.
Restaurant Basaal is located at the Dunne Bierkade in the citycentre of The Hague and they offer a wide variety of international dishes.

We attended the Summer Dreamin’ Cocktail Supper and the first dish was steak tartare from pumpkin with caviar and beetroot.
To match the flavours of our first course, we received a Moscow Mule with Van Kleef orangebitter, vodka and gingerbeer.
Our second course was a pike-perch fish cake with anchovies, olives and tomato. We received this course together with a Belsazar Fizz cocktail which contained Vermouth/D’Alsace.
The main course was wild duck with celery, stew and chives which tasted absolutely delicious! The Gin & Tonic from Nádar gin en verveine perfectly matched this dish by enhancing the flavour of the duck.
The fourth course was a small course which contained a crayfish croquet and sangria with medium sherry.
Finally, we received a pistache cake with crimson pear and white chocolate ice as a dessert. We also got a Strawberry Margarita with Patrón tequila and an Espresso Martini.

We had an wonderful evening and we enjoyed all the food and drinks that we received. The service was great and the food was beautifully prepared and very delicious. If this event will be offered next year during the cocktailweek at restaurant Basaal, we would certainly like to revisit this restaurant again!

  • Bavette - MEAT-Tappunt

When the restaurants where still open (it already seems like such a long time since we are in a semi-lockdown again) we visited M’EAT Bar & Grill & Tappunt.
These restaurants started to work together since COVID-19 and we reserved a table at M’EAT. These restaurants are located in Den Bosch and we visited them during our citytrip last September.

We started our evening with a Valse Trippel from the extensive beermenu of Tappunt and some bread with dip. The bread was served in a cute bag and the dips tasted amazing! As a main course, we ordered the Bavette and the M’EAT Hamburger. Both were prepared on the Big Green Egg which gave the meat a beautiful smoky taste. Both of the dishes were very tasty and delicious and we were super happy and satisfied with them. Furthermore, we ordered a St. Bernardus Abt 12, Ons Blackie Imperial Stout and another Valse Trippel since we absolutely loved this beer.

The staff was very kind and funny and we certainly had an wonderful evening here. We would definitely revisit this restaurant when we are in Den Bosch again.
Therefore, we would like to recommended this restaurant to everyone who loves beer and a good piece of M’EAT.

  • Restaurant - Fratelli Den Haag

During our citytrip in The Hague (or Den Haag in Dutch), we visited Italian restaurant Fratelli on our last evening. Restaurant Fratelli offers a rich variety of regional dishes from all over Italy. Therefore, the restaurant not only serves pizzas and pasta but also meat and fish dishes.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were directly greeted by a waitress who took us to our seat in a cozy corner of the restaurant. We direclty ordered a glass of white wine and we decided to go for the Carpaccio Di Manzo as a starter.
The carpaccio tasted absolutely wonderful and it was one of the better carpaccios we have eaten.The slices were very thin and with the Parmesan cheese it tasted amazing.
Furthermore, we ordered the Tagliolini Al Tartufo Nero which was a dish made of fresh Tagliolini pasta with truffel. This dish was very special since it was prepared at our table in a big Parmesan cheese.
The pasta was incredibly tasty and it had a wonderful flavour. Moreover, you get a decent portion of pasta for the price you pay for it as well.

The waiters in the restaurant were very kind and did their job well but the service was not anything really special. We had a great last evening in The Hague in this restaurant and therefore this restaurant is certainly recommended. Especially the Tagliolini Al Tartufo Nero is an absolute must try!

  • Lunch - Logica Leiden

Recently, we visited this beautiful restaurant Logica Leiden which is located in a monumental building at a canal in Leiden.
This restaurant is specialised in vegetarian and vegan food and it mainly uses pure and seasonal products that are organic, healthy, responsible and very tasty!

We visited this restaurant in the afternoon since we were looking for a place to go for lunch. We took a cozy seat on the window site and we decided to first order a cappuccino and a café latte.
Hereafter we ordered the pumpkin hummus sandwhich and a sandwhich with brie. Both of them tasted delicious and they looked incredible as well.
Furthermore, we ordered a small snack on the side which were some cheese croquettes (or ‘kaas kroketjes’ in Dutch). We finished these ones in no time since they were super tasty. Finally, we ordered two latte macchiatos which tasted very nice too.

The waitresses in the restaurant were very kind and we received most of our food and drinks within a decent amount of time. We only had to wait for quite some time for someone to bring our last coffee, but the overall experience of this restaurant was great! Therefore, we absolutely recommended this restaurant

(P.S. this restaurant offers a new menu each season. Therefore, it is highly probable that they now have a different menu then when we visited it)

  • Salmon Baquette - In Den Ouden Vogelstruys - Maastricht

We visited Café In den Ouden Vogelstruys on our first day in Maastricht. This café is one of the oldest cafés in the Netherlands and iconic for Maastricht.
The café is situated at the famous Vrijthof and they have a beautiful terrace overlooking this square.

Since it was quite hot that day, we decided to take a seat in the shadow. We first ordered a Coca Cola and a homemade ice tea (which tasted delicious). Thereafter we ordered a baguette with salmon and a baquette with Dutch “kroketten”.
The baguette with salmon had quite a lot of salmon on it which tasted very appetizing. Moreover, the capers and nuts tasted amazing in combination with the salmon. ❤
The baquette with the Dutch kroketten was also very tasy. The croquettes were of good quality and the salad on the side also tasted really nice.

We definitely had enjoyable afternoon at this restaurant and the waiters were all very relaxed and kind. Since it was quite busy on the terrace, we had to wait sometimes for somebody to take our order. However, this was not a problem to us. If you’re in the area of the Vrijthof, then this is absolutely a great place to go for lunch.
