We hadn't eaten at Bagels & Beans since last summer due to the pandemic. Therefore we were very happy that we were able to order through takeaway.

Recently, we visited this beautiful restaurant Logica Leiden which is located in a monumental building at a canal in Leiden.
This restaurant is specialised in vegetarian and vegan food and it mainly uses pure and seasonal products that are organic, healthy, responsible and very tasty!
We visited this restaurant in the afternoon since we were looking for a place to go for lunch. We took a cozy seat on the window site and we decided to first order a cappuccino and a café latte.
Hereafter we ordered the pumpkin hummus sandwhich and a sandwhich with brie. Both of them tasted delicious and they looked incredible as well.
Furthermore, we ordered a small snack on the side which were some cheese croquettes (or ‘kaas kroketjes’ in Dutch). We finished these ones in no time since they were super tasty. Finally, we ordered two latte macchiatos which tasted very nice too.
The waitresses in the restaurant were very kind and we received most of our food and drinks within a decent amount of time. We only had to wait for quite some time for someone to bring our last coffee, but the overall experience of this restaurant was great! Therefore, we absolutely recommended this restaurant
(P.S. this restaurant offers a new menu each season. Therefore, it is highly probable that they now have a different menu then when we visited it)

]]>The post Pareltje aan de Vliet – Brouwerij Cavé appeared first on Nick's Honest.
]]>Pareltje aan de Vliet is another gem of brewery Cavé with an alcoholpercentage of 5,3%. This beer is named after the nickname of the village Voorschoten which is ‘Parel aan de Vliet’.
The village got this name because it is a village with a long history, many monumental buildings, beautiful country estates and a annual horsemarket.
Pareltje aan de Vliet is an American Pale Ale (APA) with notes of citrus. It also has a fresh aftertaste which makes it a beautiful beer to drink in the summer.
We actually drank this beer in the pool in our garden on a beautiful sunny day and we absolutely loved it! It is quite a bitter beer, but the fruity smell and taste makes it an easy beer to drink. Especially on a warm day. Therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.

]]>Let There Be Light stands for the longing for warm and sunny days after the cold winter months. This beer from brewery Jopen is a fresh and soft blond beer with a low alcohol percentage of 3,3%. Perfect for spring and summer.
The beer has many fruit notes such as tropical fruit, grapefruit and citrus from the American hop varieties. The beer is quite cloudy and is has a soft taste profile as well. We were happy to taste this beer, but it wasn’t really our favourite beer from this brewery. To us, it tasted a bit watery and we didn’t tasted the fruit notes in this beer that much. It smelled really nice though but we wouldn’t drink this beer again. Therefore, we rate this beer a 2/5.
What kind of snack do you eat accompanied with your beer?

]]>After a day of shopping we decided to take a break at the Bagels & Beans in Leiden. This restaurant mainly focusses on bagels (of course) and coffee. It was our first time at Bagels & Beans and we both had never eaten a bagel before. Therefore we were very interested in how a bagel would actually taste.
We first ordered two Lattes which were delicious. Thereafter we ordered a sourdough bagel with wild salmon and a warm whole grain bagel with goatcheese.
The bagel with salmon was very tasty due to the combination of creamcheese with chives, capers, onion and lettuce.
The bagel with goatcheese tasted also really good but we only thought that there could be a little bit more honey on it. Nevertheless, the whole grain bagel tasted amazing and the walnuts and thyme on the goatcheese gave it an unique flavour.
We had a great experience at this restaurant and we were happily surprised by the taste of the bagels. Therefore we would definitely visit Bagels & Beans again to grab some lunch.

]]>The post Annie’s Leiden Summer Lunch appeared first on Nick's Honest.
]]>Restaurant Annie’s Leiden is one of our favourite restaurants in Leiden and since we can not get enough of this restaurant, we decided to write a second review about it. We had a beautiful spot on the terrace were we could see all the boats passing by on the canals which was absolutely wonderful.
Our afternoon with a cold beer and a glass of white wine and after a quick look at the menu, we already knew what we wanted. We decided to go for the smoked salmon sandwich and the brioche with serrano ham. The whole grain bread of the smoked salmon sandwich tasted superb and the salmon and creamcheese tasted mouthwatering as well. The brioche with serrano ham tasted also delightful. We never had eaten a brioche before but we were actually happily surprised by its taste. It was also quite a richly filled sandwhich and therefore it was sometimes quite difficult to eat in a neat manner.
Eventhough the terrace was packed, our food and drinks were served on time and with a smile. We again had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant and therefore we recommend it to anyone who is living in, or visiting Leiden.
– Have you ever visited Annie’s before?

]]>In a monumental building in the middle of the city centre of Leiden you will find Barista Cafe Leiden. In this cafe, you can enjoy delicious coffees, breakfasts and lunches. They also have a beautiful, centuries-old courtyard terrace where you can enjoy the sun whilest enjoying a nice cup of coffee.
We started our afternoon in this cafe with a cappuccino and a latte. The waitresses in this restaurant are very kind and the coffees where absolutely delicious!
Since we were quite hungry after a day of work, we decided to order something from the lunch menu. We ordered the Club Sandwich and the Smashed Avocado Sandwhich and both of them tasted as amazing as they looked.
The Club Sandwich was incredible. The combination of roasted chickenfilet, oven-baked Coburgerham, lettuce and chopped cucumber together with brown bread made this sandwich definitely something special.
The Smashed Avocado Sandwhich was also really tasteful since the bread tasted amazing and the avocado and eggs were perfectly prepared. We also loved the pomegranate seeds on this dish because they gave it a fruity and fresh taste.
Finally, chose to go for the Iced Coffee Regular. The coffee tasted sweet and since it was quite a warm day, it was the perfect refreshment!
We had an excellent experience at this cafe and therefore we recommend this place to anyone who is in for an amazing cup of coffee or an extensive lunch.

]]>The post Karalis Leiden – Restaurant review appeared first on Nick's Honest.
]]>Restaurant Karalis is a local family restaurant in the city centre of Leiden. This restaurants serves authentic Italian dishes with a strong accent to the island of Sardenia. The restaurants only uses products imported from Italy and they try to make everything theirselves as much as possible.
We started our evening in this restaurant with homemade baguette and herb butter and a good glass of wine. As our first course we ordered the ‘Funghetti misti trifolati’ and the ‘Calamari fritti’. These were mixed mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce and fried squid served with garlic mayonnaise. The mushrooms tasted amazing and the fried squid was really crispy and tasteful as well.
Thereafter we ordered the pizza ‘Quattro formaggi’ (four cheeses) and the ‘Ravioli al pomodoro’. The pizza was absolutely the best four cheeses pizza that we ever tasted before! The dough was crispy, but soft and the cheeses on the pizza were amazingly creamy. The ravioli also had a good taste but it could not compete with the pizza. The taste of the tomato sauce was in our opinion a bit overwhelming but the ravioli itself tasted very good!
Finally, we chose to go for the ‘Dama bianca’ and the ”Panna cotta alla fragola’. These were vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce and whipped cream and homemade pannacotta with strawberries. Both of the dishes tasted superb and sweet.
We thought it was very special that most of the Karalis staff is Italian. This gives the restaurant a really different vibe and it feels like you’re in Italy the moment you enter this restaurant. We had a very pleasant evening in this restaurant and we absolutely loved the food as well! If you go to this restaurant, you should definitely try their pizzas. They are, in our opinion, the best!

]]>A powerful tripel with a fresh taste and a citrusy character. These are the characteristics from the beer: ‘Paapje Tripel’ from brewery Cavé.
Brewery Cavé is a local brewery from Voorschoten and they brew beautiful craft beers. The Paapje Tripel is named after ‘de Papenlaan’ and ‘de Papewegse Polder’ which are located in Voorschoten. This beer is easy to drink due to its smooth taste and it has a slightly bitter aftertaste. You definitely taste the flavour of hop in this beer and because it has has citrusy character, it also tasted quite spicy.
We absolutely loved it! Therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.
