]]>L’ Ensemble di Montalcino is a beautiful barley wine aged beer in Brunello di Montalcino barrels. This beer is brewed by the brewery De Dochter van de Korenaar which is situated in Belgium.
The L’ Ensemble di Montalcino has matured for approximately 1 year in these Brunello barrels. This gives the beer a strong infusion of red wine and tannins from the wood.
It is a very powerful and balanced barley wine which will certainly appeal to lovers of the better red wines.
With an alcoholpercentage of 13% and the subtle tones of fruit, wood and hop, it is a beer we absolutely loved. The strong taste of red wine made the beer very delicious and strong. This beer is an absolute gem of the brewery and we would certainly like to drink this beer again! Therefore, we rate this beer a 4,3/5

]]>Two weeks ago, we reviewed the Ben Nevis BA called ‘Winterslaapje’. This time we wrote a beer review about the other new beer from Brouwerij Voorschoten, the Quadrupel.
The Voorschotens Quadrupel is a strong beer that drinks away pretty easily. It is originally brewed for the colder days, but can actually be enjoyed year round. The Quadrupel is a aromatic beer with a ruby red to black colour. Furthermore, it has a warming body with a touch of dried fruit.
Since darker beers are right up our ally, this was bound to be a succes.
And it sure was! The smell and flavours of this beer are very strong which is most definitly something we like. Therefore, this beer is certainly one we would drink again.
Therefore, we rate this beer a 4/5.

]]>De Royale Martinus is another beer from brewery Stadsbrouwerij de Maastrichter Maltezer and its name refers to the St.Martinus church in Maastricht. St.Martin was the patron saint of the poor and soldiers.
De Royale Martinus is a hoppy blond beer with an alcoholpercentage of 5,4%. It is quite a sweet beer with a fresh and bitter aftertaste. Furthermore, the flavours of citrus and yellow exotic fruit are well presented in this beer. We already drank this beer during our tour through the brewery in July and since we really liked this beer, we decided to take one bottle home.
We were again happily surprised by the taste of this beer since we really loved the citrusy and bitter flavour.
However, we have to mention that, after drinking ‘De Maltezer’ before this one, this one was a bit disappointing to us. We preferred the taste of De Maltezer over this one but is it is still a good beer to drink.
Therefore we rate this beer a 3,5/5.

]]>While being on our citytrip in Maastricht, we did a tour through a local brewery named: ‘De Maastrichter Maltezer. During this tour, we got the chance to taste ‘De Maltezer’. We absolutely loved the flavour of this beer and therefore we decided to buy it.
De Maltezer is the flagship beer of the brewery and it has an alcoholpercentage of 6,5%. It is a Dortmunder style, amber-coloured beer with a slightly fruity taste.
We definitely liked the malt-sweet character of this beer and we could also taste some tones of caramel. It also has a slightly bitter aftertaste which makes it a easy beer to drink. The beer absolutely has an unique flavour which we hadn’t experienced before since it tasted quite sweet.
We would certainly buy this beer again and therefore we rate this beer a 4,5/5.

]]>A powerful tripel with a fresh taste and a citrusy character. These are the characteristics from the beer: ‘Paapje Tripel’ from brewery Cavé.
Brewery Cavé is a local brewery from Voorschoten and they brew beautiful craft beers. The Paapje Tripel is named after ‘de Papenlaan’ and ‘de Papewegse Polder’ which are located in Voorschoten. This beer is easy to drink due to its smooth taste and it has a slightly bitter aftertaste. You definitely taste the flavour of hop in this beer and because it has has citrusy character, it also tasted quite spicy.
We absolutely loved it! Therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.

]]>An unique beer which is the flagship of one of our favourite breweries in de Zaan?
Then we are definitely talking about Het Zoentje from brewery Breugem.
Het Zoentje is an amber-coloured beer which tastes less bitter than an IPA, but fresher dan a spring bock. Moreover, the beer has an alcoholpercentage of 6,2%. Due to the use of several hop varieties, the peach and citrusfruit like character of this beer (almost) literally pops out of your glass.
We drank this beer on a sunny afternoon in our garden and we have to say, it is absolutely a good beer to drink in the summer. It is a fresh beer with a smooth but bitter taste and you certainly taste this tones of citrus in this beer. We only didn’t tasted a peach like flavour but to us, this was not much of a problem.
Therefore we rate this beer a 3,5/5.

]]>Brewery Lowlander is a very special Dutch brewery since they brew beer with botanicals. They brew with herbs, spices and fruits to create unique and naturally delicious beers. We decided to try the Islander Summer Ale which has a low alcoholpercentage of 3.8%. This beer is inspired by Curacao and it is brewed with the islands’ vitamin C rich orange and dragon fruit.
We were actually quite disappointed by the taste of this beer. It tasted quite watery and it wasn’t as fruity as we expected it to be. Therefore we rate this beer a 2.5/5.
