Tilburgse Heer BA – Stadsbrouwerij 013 – Beer review

The Tilburgse Heer Barrel Aged (BA) is a tripel from Stadsbrouwerij 013 which is a local brewery from Tilburg. The lords of Tilburg frequently used the castle to enjoy the tastiest beers there. This tripel is certainly one of them. 🍻

The beer has matured in Miltonduff Whiskey barrels and it is a full blond beer with a malty character. Furthermore, it has an alcoholpercentage of 8% and it has a strong smell of whiskey. We did tasted the tones of whiskey in this beer, but it was not extremely present. It is also quite an easy beer to drink and it has a beautiful golden colour. ❤
The beer has a bitter aftertaste and we also experienced lots of carbon dioxide in the beer and inside the bottle. It also had a beautiful foamy head which stayed on the beer for a long time which was great! 👍
We absolutely loved this BA and we would certainly like to drink this beer again. Therefore, we rate this beer a 4,2/5. 🍺

Emelisse 15 year anniversary – Beer review

Emelisse is a brewery from Zeeland (The Netherlands) and they offer a wide range of specialty beers. It is a very special brewery since they offer unique flavour combinations and a characteristic taste experience. Therefore, we are super happy that we received a beer box from this brewery. 🍻

The first beer that we tried from Emelisse was the Emelisse 15th anniversary.
This Imperial Russian Stout has matured in Kilchoman whiskey barrels for 15 weeks. Furthermore, it has an alcoholpercentage of 15% and is brewed for 15 hours with 15 types of malts. 👍
This exclusive edition is characterized by notes of walnut, coffee and chocolate. We certainly tasted the whiskey in this beer and this also gave a burning sensation in our throats. We also smelled the notes of coffee, chocolate and whiskey very strongly. ☕🍫🥃
Finally, the aftertaste of whiskey stayed in our mouths for a long time. We were absolutely happily surprised by this beautiful taste sensation and we would certainly like to try this beer again. Therefore, we rate this beer a 4,2/5. 😍

L’ Ensemble di Montalcino is a beautiful barley wine aged beer in Brunello di Montalcino barrels. This beer is brewed by the brewery De Dochter van de Korenaar which is situated in Belgium.

The L’ Ensemble di Montalcino has matured for approximately 1 year in these Brunello barrels. This gives the beer a strong infusion of red wine and tannins from the wood.
It is a very powerful and balanced barley wine which will certainly appeal to lovers of the better red wines.
With an alcoholpercentage of 13% and the subtle tones of fruit, wood and hop, it is a beer we absolutely loved. The strong taste of red wine made the beer very delicious and strong. This beer is an absolute gem of the brewery and we would certainly like to drink this beer again! Therefore, we rate this beer a 4,3/5

Despite its high alcoholpercentage, it is a really easy beer to drink. We especially tasted caramel and whiskey in this beer and it tasted rather sweet than bitter.❤
It was a delicious beer to drink and therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.

Sin & Remorse is another beautiful beer that we received in the beerbox from brewery Jopen. This beer has been brewed in collaboration with brewery De Molen and it has matured for 500 days on Ledaig and Isle of Arran whisey barrels.

The Sin & Remorse is a really dark beer with aromas of coffee, whiskey, wood and a hint of peat. It also has an alcoholpercentage of 10,5% and we especially tasted and smelled the whiskey in this beer. We were absolutely happily surprised by the taste of this beer. It tasted sweet, but also quite bitter and it is like an explosion of all different kinds of flavours in your mouth when you drink it. Moreover, we are a big fan of whiskey and you definitely smelled and tasted this in the beer. It was bsolutely an outstanding beer!
Therefore, we rate this beer a 4,8/5.

The Blackberry Sour is a beautiful limited edition beer from brewery Jopen. This beer has matured for 548 days in different Bourbon barrels and it has a wonderful purple glow.
Furthermore, blackberries were added at the end of the brewing process. We definitely smelled and tasted this while drinking this beer.

The beer is quite complex with a malty base and it has aromas of chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. The aftertaste is sweet and sour due to the addition of blackberries.
We absolutely enjoyed this beer very much since we really loved the sweet and sour flavour. It is not too sour and the taste of dark fruit is amazing. Although the beer is a Bourbon barrel aged, the bourbon was not very present in the flavour. It rather tasted like a strong red wine or port.
Therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.

Meesterstuk 2017 is, as the name implies, a masterpiece (meesterstuk). The beer is brewed at brewery Jopen in Haarlem. This beer has matured in Bowmore barrels for 365 days and therefore it has a strong special flavour of Scotch whisky.
Moreover, this beer is brewed with fresh ginger, Celtic sea salt and cocoa. Due to these unique ingredients, they created a beautiful balance between sweet and salty and soft and spicy.

Since we really love whiskey, this was absolutely an excellent beer to drink! It has quite a smokey whiskey flavour and its colour is pitch black. Furthermore, the beer has an alcoholpercentage of 12,5% and it has a very strong smell of whiskey.
Unfortunately the beer was not very foamy but this was not a big deal to us since it still tasted amazing.

We were happily surprised by the wonderful taste of the Meesterstuk 2017 and we would absolutely like to buy this one again. Therefore we rate this beer a 4,8/5

The name ‘De Verloren Zoon‘ refers to the Bible story of the prodigal son and thus to the home of Jopen: the Jopenkerk Haarlem. Jopen celebrates the return of the ‘Verloren Zoon’ because he has been found again. ‘De Verloren Zoon’ hid in whiskey barrels.

This Barley Wine has matured for 304 days on Bowmore Sherry Finish barrels. While drinking this beer, you will discover hints of caramel. Also, the dry body makes the whiskey stand out clearly. Moreover, the beer has an alcoholpercentage of 10,7% and it is a malty but sweet beer.

We absolutely enjoyed the taste of whiskey and sherry in this beer. It was an easy beer to drink despite the high alcoholpercentage and the strong taste of whiskey. Therefore we rate this beer a 4,5/5.

Imagine an English garden full of lush borders of colourful flowers. The soothing fragrant of daisies and sage. Actually the perfect time for an English Wheat Wine right?

Wheat Weet Mag Het Zeggen from the dutch brewery Jopen is an English Wheat Wine brewed with wheat, sage and daisies. It is quite a powerful beer with a rich flavour due to the use of wheat malt. Also, the beer is slightly bitter with a floral aroma and a minty aftertaste.

The beer has an alcoholpercentage of 11% and it is therefore quite a strong beer. This limited edition beer spent two months in Monbazillac, sweet white wine, barrels. This has added notes of grape to the taste pallet.

We enjoyed this beer but unfortunately it almost had no foam. This was a bit of a pity to us. Also the taste of white wine was, to our opinion, to much represented in the beer. Therefore we rate this beer a 3,5/5.

This beer is brewed as cold as your ex-girlfriend’s heart. So stop whining and crawl out of the dark corner of your room. This beer will warm your heart. ❤

This limited edition beer is aged on Ruby Port and Jamaican rum barrels. Therefore, the beer has aromas of red fruit and wood. These aromas are followed by warm notes of chocolate, red fruit, nuts and spiciness from the rum.

The beer has quite a high alcoholpercentage of 11,3%. Therefore, it is a relatively strong beer to drink. We absolutely enjoyed the smooth, but full taste of this beer.
The flavour of Port and Rum are also reflected very well in this beer. Therefore we rate this beer a 4/5.
